Lukas Ligeti Artistic Director of ISCM World New Music Days in South Africa
Lukas Ligeti is the Artistic Director of ISCM World New Music Days in South Africa, to take place in Johannesburg and Cape Town from November 24 to December 3, 2023. This will be the centenary World New Music Days festival and the first time it takes place in Africa.

July in Ghana
This July, Lukas Ligeti will be in Ghana to convene a panel on new African composition at the conference of the International Council of Traditional Music; for a performance of his music at a memorial concert for J.H. Kwabena Nketia; and to give a talk at the PASMAE music education conference.

Premieres and Portrait Concerts
May/June will see 5 world premieres of new works by Lukas Ligeti at the Budapest Music Center, Moers Festival, and Aldeburgh Festival, in addition to portrait concerts in Hamburg and Bologna, a solo concert in Cluj, and many other performances of his works. See the Upcoming Concerts page!

Residency at the University of Illinois
Lukas Ligeti will be in residence at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign during the coming week, with a concert of improvisations, a public lecture, and a concert featuring 3 of his works, György Ligeti's Hamburg Concerto ,and two works by UIUC students. See the Upcoming Performances page.

A new work by Lukas Ligeti, commissioned by Philharmonie Essen for the joint forces of Burkina Electric and the Cologne-based Ensemble BRuCH, will premiere at the NOW! Festival in Essen on October 29, 2022.

Two world premieres in June
Two new works for quintet by Lukas Ligeti will be premiered in June: Actaonella, on June 22 by Ensemble Reconsil in Vienna (commissioned by Reconsil and Network for New Music), and Aquifères, on June 24 by Ensemble Hopper in Liège (commissioned by flutist Sofia Gantois).

Two world premieres at the Ars Musica Festival in Brussels
This edition of the Ars Musica Festival in Brussels, Belgium will see two world premieres of commissioned works by Lukas Ligeti: the 5-movement version of the Suite for Burkina Electric and Orchestra, and La parole seule for mezzo-soprano and 6 musicians with a text by François Emmanuel.

New CD out on col legno
On March 26, 2021, the great Austrian label col legno releases "That Which Has Remained... That Which Has Emerged...", a work created during my time as artist-in-residence at the POLIN Museum in Warsaw. I'm very proud of this beautifully packaged CD that contains one of my best works to date.

Unfortunately, almost all events on my calendar for 2020 have been canceled due to Covid-19. However, the performance of "Pattern Transformation" on Portugal on June 19 is NOT canceled.

New Zealand Dates Canceled
My performance at the ISCM World New Music Days in Auckland, New Zealand, as selected composer representing South Africa, and my residency at the NZ School of Music in Wellington, have sadly been canceled (as has the entire ISCM WNMD festival) due to the CoViD-19 pandemic.
